Ian Plant "Shooting to the Extreme: Techniques and Tricks for making unique nature images" Sunday, March 8 at 1:30pm Ian Plant has been photographing the natural world since 1995. His work has appeared in a number of books and calendars, as well as national and regional magazines, including Outdoor Photographer, National Parks, Blue Ridge Country, Adirondack Life, Wonderful West Virginia, and Chesapeake Life, among others. Ian is a Contributing Editor to Nature Photographers Online Magazine. His sixth and most recent book is the critically acclaimed "Chesapeake: Bay of Light. An Exploration of the Chesapeake Bay's Wild and Forgotten Places." Ian's work has also appeared in five books of the Wonder and Light series: Shenandoah Wonder and Light, West Virginia Wonder and Light, Blue Ridge Parkway Wonder and Light, Virginia Wonder and Light, and Maryland Wonder and Light. Joseph Rossbach "Beyond the Basics: Tips and techniques for creating stunning nature and landscape images" Sunday, March 8 at 10:30am
Joseph Rossbach specializes in creating unique
images of the American Wilderness with an emphasis on the East Coast from
South Carolina to Maine. Joseph has been photographing the natural world
for over 12 years and has traveled to the deep canyons of the Southwest to
the rugged coasts of New England in search of beautiful and evocative
images of the American Wilderness. Joe’s work has been published in
magazines, calendars, advertising campaigns, web sites, art galleries and
books. A few of Joe’s clients include Blue Ridge Country Magazine, Digital
Camera World, Photo Techniques Magazine, The Potomac News and Mountain

Tony Sweet " 'Seeing' in the Digital Age" Saturday, March 7 at 12:30pm After 20
years as a professional jazz artist, Tony changed careers and directed his
creative juices towards nature photography. The improvisational,
spontaneous, and abstract nature of jazz are also integral elements of
nature photography. Tony's work is published on calendars, post cards,
posters, annual reports, greeting cards, catalogs, and electronic mediums.
His fine art prints are exhibited in private and corporate collections
throughout the United States, and he is represented by The Getty Picture
Agency. His images are also used by Nikon, NikSoftware, Singh Ray,
Microtek, and others for national ad campaigns. Tony conducts Visual
Artistry photography location workshops, and speaks to photography
organizations and PPA schools throughout the continental United States and
Canada. Tony's articles and images are featured in Shutterbug and
Rangefinder magazines, and is a contributor to Nikonnet.com. He is a staff

Jim Clark: For the past thirty-three years, Jim has been an award-winning nature photographer, writer, speaker, and instructor. Jim is a contributing editor for Outdoor Photographer Magazine and his articles and images have also appeared in publications such as Outdoor & Nature Photographer, Nature’s Best, Wildlife Refuge, Defenders of Wildlife, Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife, Wonderful West Virginia, Photo Media, Birders World, Country, Wild Bird, Nature Photographer, Outdoor Traveler, BioScience, and Horizons. Jim is the author and photographer of three books: West Virginia: The Allegheny Highlands (Westcliffe Publishers), Mountain Memories: An Appalachian Sense of Place (WVU Press) and Between Ocean and Bay: A Celebration of the Eastern Shore (Mountain Trail Press). Jim and his son Carson just completed their first book together - The Adventures of Buddy Beaver, which is scheduled for release in spring 2010. Jim is also completing his fourth book - Mountain Naturalist. The documentary film, “Mountain Memories,” profiled Jim’s life and career as a nature photographer. The film was broadcast on West Virginia PBS-TV in August 2003. In 2005, the documentary was shown at the American Conservation Film Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Jim is past President of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) and has also served on NANPA’s Board of Directors. In 2000, Jim received NANPA’s Outstanding Recognition Award. Jim continues to be active in NANPA activities including the annual summit, regional events, and the instructional road show programs. Jim conducts workshops for Mountain Trail Photo, Great American Photography Weekend, and the Art Wolfe Center for Digital Photography.
Carson Clark: In 2007, Carson’s image of a monarch butterfly in flight was one of only 60 images chosen out of 15,000 submitted for the coveted Nature’s Best Magazine International Photography Contest. Carson was six when he captured the image on his Nikon Coolpix camera. Carson received a Highly Honor award and was the youngest winner ever for the contest. In 2007, the image was on exhibit with the other winning photographs at the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History. The image was also used for the cover of Emmy-Award winning composer Gary Malkin’s 2006 cd, “The Calling.” The image was also published in his school’s annual calendar and the image was a finalist in the Inner Reflections Calendar Contest, which receives more than 500,000 entries for 50 slots. In 2008, Carson won first place in the Washington Post Newspaper Youth Photography Contest. Carson’s image of a beaver swimming in the Dry Fork River in West Virginia won first place in the Animals Category. More than 2,000 entries were submitted to the contest. A veteran photographer, Carson has been photographing since age three. Currently, Carson and his Dad are finishing up their first children’s book – The Adventures of Buddy Beaver – about a family of beaver they have been photographing near their home and in West Virginia. Lowepro, Bogen, and Hunts Photo are sponsoring Carson in this project. Carson is the youngest member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).

Wayne Wolfersberger "Photographing Yellowstone" Sunday, March 8 at 3:00pm An ecologist-naturalist and educator by professional training and a nature photographer by passion, Wayne has integrated both areas to become a well respected nature photographer in the area. His photographic expertise was honed while working for a D.C. area commercial photography firm, the US Navy and involvement in numerous seminars and workshops. Wayne is a member of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association), the Vienna Photographic Society and Northern VA Photographic Association for which he serve as VP and President. Wayne has delivered numerous and varied photographic programs to many local groups and also in the UK and Australia. Many of his images have appeared in national magazines, on calendars and postcards exhibited as fine art prints. During the spring and fall Wayne teaches a variety of photography classes for Fairfax Co Adult & Community Education but during the summer you will find Wayne in Yellowstone working for the US National Park Service. |

Josh Taylor "Garden Photography: Tips and Techniques" Sunday, March 8 at 12:00pm Josh brings to his programs and assignments a background of over thirty-years experience in photography, including newspaper and magazine photography, teaching, and workshops. With emphasis on the success of the photographer, workshop participants describe his workshops as fun-filled, exciting with emphasis not only on techniques but on results. Josh is a published, award-winning photographer who specializes in nature, landscape, and garden photography workshops. He has integrated computer graphics with photography to produce captivating on-screen images and handouts to clarify concepts and to present information. Josh has presented workshops at the Smithsonian National Orchid Show, U.S. National Arboretum, U.S. Botanic Garden, Brookside Gardens, Virginia State Arboretum (Blandy Farm), American Horticultural Society Garden School, and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to teaching in the Smithsonian Studio Arts Program and at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, Josh speaks at camera and garden clubs, judges photographic competitions, and exhibits his photographs in gallery shows. He is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association, National Association of Photoshop Professionals, Garden Writers Association, Fujifilm Talent Team, a member and past president of the Northern Virginia Photographic Society and was voted best garden club speaker in 2005. |

Mary Louise Ravese "The Nature of Creativity" Saturday, March 7 at 3:00pm Mary Louise Ravese specializes in nature and travel photography from locations across the United States and Europe. Her favorite subject matter includes country landscapes and nature close-ups. She draws inspiration from a variety of visual arts to produce photographs often described as "painterly". Her fine art photography is in private, university and corporate collections in over 29 states and is exhibited nationally through art shows, galleries and shops. Mary Louise's images have been used in calendars, magazines, books and websites including various projects with National Geographic maps. Mary Louise is founder and owner of Bella Vista Photography. She is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP), Equine Photographers Network (EPN). Mary Louise is a regular speaker and competition judge for photography clubs in the Mid Atlantic. She also enjoys teaching on a wide range of topics related to nature photography. Her ability to explain complex topics in an easy to understand way, combined with her approachable demeanor has made her a popular instructor. She leads classes and field workshops ranging from one day seminars in the Mid Atlantic region to multi-day workshops at a variety of locations across the US and abroad. |

Wil Hershberger "10 steps to better macro photography" Saturday, March 7 at 2:00pm Wil Hershberger has been an avid naturalist most of his life. His photography has become an extension of this passion. Wil has been president of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society and the Frederick chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society, the Vice President of the Shenandoah Photographic Society and a moderator of the Flora and Macro Forum on the NatureScapes.net online photography community. He is a co-founder of the Potomac Valley Nature Photographers. He is a member of the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA), and the North American PhotoShop Professionals. He has thousands of sound recordings archived at the Cornell’s Laboratory of Ornithology’s Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds ranging from birds to bugs and has taught Bird Identification classes for the Potomac Valley Audubon Society for over 20 years.
